Heading Into the Sierras - Yippie!

Today Scarecrow and I are leaving Kennedy Meadows and heading into the Sierras. I'm really excited to be on the move again. I'm a little apprehensive about the cold weather and how I'll do up there. Ever since the traumatic brain injury I lost the ability to regulate my body temperature so my body doesn't know how to stay warm. It's definitely going to be difficult since me and cold weather don't get along all that well, but I'll be okay. Keep your fingers crossed and send WARM thoughts my way : P

This journey has been absolutely everything that I could have hoped for and more. I didn't really have any expectations going in which was ideal for me. I've skipped some miles in the desert. It's funny how others see skipping miles and look down upon that. I completely understand that there's a bunch of people out there that are purist and follow the trail to a tee. But at the same time... hike your OWN hike.

This adventure to me has been just about getting out here and experiencing life. Having fun and enjoying myself.  I have so much fun out here. Some days we come across people and they just look absolutely miserable. Don't get me wrong I have days where I'm beaten up as well... but I still find the joy and beauty in what I'm doing. I'm still able to look out there and have such a vast appreciation for this beautiful trail. To me it's not about how fast I go, the miles that I put in, or how light my pack is..... it's all about having FUN. As long as I continue to do that then nothing else really matters.

We're out here to enjoy the scenery and really take to heart what we're seeing. I'm having a blast and that's what counts. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love everything that I've come across thus far and I would do it all again the same exact way. This journey so far has been just downright spectacular. I'm so proud of how far I've come and for actually taking the chance to get out here and do something like this.

I can't wait to see what the rest of the trail has to offer. Every day is an adventure in itself. You never know what's going to happen, who you're going to run into, etc. And that is truly a great feeling. I have met tons of wonderful people out here. It's crazy how people from all walks of life are out here and we all unite because of this common goal... hike the Pacific Crest Trail.

having the time of my life,

Sara

  1. Wow...what an experience. I am so happy that you are doing this and feeling all the positive vibes. Take each day and enjoy it, (as you are), for you will never experience this - this way ever again. Oh - by the way Sara...you are much cuter with your tongue INSIDE of your mouth!!

  2. Maybe to stay warm you have to wiggle wiggle wiggle. LOL. I sent your base pants so those are coming. Scarecrow can put his fire making skills to work now. Remember he said he'd make the fire daily! Maybe it will just have to be a little longer fire time than the "usual". Fire parties are where it's at.
